8000 Series Tractors PST Electrical System Flashcards
What is the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) link?
The CCD link is the communication network used by the tractor controllers to ‘talk’ to each other.
What functions does the CCD link provide for the controllers?
The CCD link allows for monitoring electrical system components, controlling operations of a circuit, and displaying system information.
What type of wires make up the CCD line?
The CCD line consists of a pair of green and yellow twisted wires that connect all the control units together.
What components have a 120 ohm termination resistor in the CCD system?
The Central Control Unit (CCU) and Corner Post Display (CPD) each have a 120 ohm termination resistor connected across the pair of wires.
What are the PCU and CCU?
The PCU and CCU are considered one unit and cannot be purchased separately.
What is the primary purpose of the PCU?
The primary purpose of the PCU is to energize the solenoid shift valves to accurately control oil flow to the various clutch elements, ensuring a smooth shift.
How does the PCU control oil flow?
The PCU sends a PWM signal to the shift valve that ‘tells’ it how and when to send oil to the clutch for engagement or release the oil for disengagement.
What data does the PCU monitor?
The PCU monitors data broadcast on the CCD to adjust the shift based on conditions such as engine load, oil temperature, throttle position, PTO load, and SCV load.
What should be referred to when working with addresses and codes?
Refer to the appropriate Technical Manual when working with addresses and codes, as many of the addresses have changed slightly from version to version.
What is the role of system inputs to the Powershift Control Unit (PCU)?
System inputs to the PCU help provide safe operation and ensure consistent shifts while the PCU checks for any problems.
What happens when there are disagreements between inputs from various sources?
Disagreements between inputs will cause fault codes to be generated or may cause the transmission to default to neutral.
What types of inputs does the PCU receive?
Inputs to the PCU are both direct and indirect.
Where do some inputs to the PCU come from?
Some inputs come to the PCU directly from system components, such as switches and sensors.
How do other inputs reach the PCU?
Other inputs come via the CCD link from other controllers.
What does the Armrest Control Unit (ACU) contain?
The ACU contains two transmission related controls: the shift lever and the throttle position sensor.
What additional function does the ACU perform?
The ACU monitors the operator presence switch (seat switch).
Where is the ACU located?
The ACU is an electronic control module (circuit board) located in the armrest to the right of the operator.
What does the ACU sense?
The ACU senses signals from the throttle, shift lever, and operator presence switch.
How does the ACU communicate information?
The ACU communicates information via the CCD link for use by the PCU.
What is the transmission shift lever?
The transmission shift lever is the link between the operator and the transmission controls.
What is the purpose of the transmission shift lever?
It is used to command changes to the operating gear of the transmission.
What type of motion does a bump shift provide?
A bump shift motion provides an upshift or downshift.
How does the shift lever function in relation to electronic circuits?
The lever acts like a switch in an electronic circuit and does not use any mechanical linkages to send a message.
What happens when the shift lever is moved?
Shift lever movement activates a hall effect switch on a circuit board above the shift lever pivot point.
How are the outputs from the hall effect switch processed?
The switch outputs are sensed by the ACU and are sent to the PCU via the CCD link.
What is the throttle command?
The throttle command signal is a combined signal from the hand throttle, foot throttle (if equipped), and field cruise.
How does the ACU, ICU, and CCU/PCU interact with the throttle command?
The ACU senses the hand throttle command signal, the ICU senses the field cruise command signal, and the CCU/PCU senses the foot throttle command signal.
What does the PCU do with the throttle command signal?
The PCU uses the throttle command signal to make engine speed changes during shifting and to change engine speed for selected reverse gears.
What information does the PCU use to determine the throttle command signal?
The PCU determines the throttle command signal by knowing the engine speed, ground speed, current gear position, and requested gear position.
How does the PCU adjust the throttle command signal?
The PCU uses the information to adjust the throttle command signal to modify engine speed during shifts and may increase or decrease engine speed for some forward and reverse gears.
What is the operator presence switch?
The operator presence switch is a deflection sensing switch in the seat that sends a signal to the ACU, similar to switches used in lawnmower seats.
