Climate
- Moderate maritime, similar to Bordeaux à warmer and drier
- Clay and limestone
Bergerac AOC and Côtes de Bergerac
o Bordeaux grapes, white and black, can be grown and ripen well
o Reds -> CS, CF, Malbec, Merlot (dominant), less-known grapes
o Côtes de Bergerac -> higher-quality only main Bordeaux grapes
Monbazillac AOC
o Sweet whites
o Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and Muscadelle
o Similar in style to Bordeaux’s less prestigious AOCs
Cahors AOC
o Malbec 85%, Tannat up to 10%, Merlot
o Rich and alluvial soils, poorer soils (mid-slope), limestone plateau
o Early-drinking (high-volume) to small batches (premium-priced)
Madiran AOC
o Tannat 60-80%, CF, CS, Fer
o Flatter land (alluvial, high yields), poorer soils (mid-slope)
o Early-drinking (high-volume) to small batches (premium-priced)
Jurançon
o VT (sweet), Jurançon (medium-sweet), Sec (dry, 30%)
o Poorer soils at mid-slope (limestone, sand, clay and stones)
o Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng
o Mid to premium-priced
