Noun
It names a person, place, thing, animal, or idea.
Proper nouns name particular persons, places, etc., and are capitalized.
Pronoun
It takes the place of a noun.
An antecedent is the noun that a pronoun stands for.
Verb
It expresses action or links the subject to another word in the sentence.
Adjective
It modifies a noun or a pronoun.
Adverb
It modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Adverbs tell how, to what extent, when, or where.
Preposition
It relates a noun or pronoun to some other part of the sentence.
An object may be compound.
The preposition, its object, and any modifiers make up a prepositional phrase.
Conjunction
It connects words or word groups. The coordinating conjunctions are and, but, or, nor, for, and yet.
The three types are Coordinating, Subordinating, and Adverbial.
Interjection
It shows sudden, usually strong, feeling.
