Q

When is “landing assured”?

A

If in the judgement of the captain, the landing can be completed in the event of any forecast deterioration of weather and plausible single failures of ground and/or airborne facilities. E.g. Cat2/3 to cat 1.

21
Q

When holding at the holding point, on a runway with a displaced threshold, an A380 lands. How much separation do you need?

A

3 minutes

22
Q

On final approach, what is the separation you need behind a a380

A

7 nm

or 3 min

23
Q

On final, what is the separation you need behind a heavy?

A

5 nm

24
Q

(Only in the UK)

How much separation do you need behind a upper medium on final?

A

4 nm

25
Q

Do we need wake turbulence separation on final behind a medium or lower medium?

A

No. It’s a radar separation and will be 3 nm or 2,5 nm depending on the radar installation at the aerodrome.

26
Q

How many approaches can you fly into an airport?

A

A maximum of two when it is due to weather, unless there has been a significant improvement to the weather or a state of emergency exists.

A third approach may be flown if one of the go around was non-weather related, and captain is satisfied that landing is assured.

27
Q

What is the rvr required for an instrument approach converted to a visual straight in approach?

A

RVR not less than 800 m

28
Q

What are the minima for a visual approach?

A

Minimum visibility of 5k
Minimum ceiling of 2500 ft aal

Crew must maintain 1500 ft aal of 500 over terrain/obstacles until established on final descent.

29
Q

Can you commence an instrument procedure when RVR is below minimum required?

A

Yes. But it should not be continued passed the approach ban (or final approach segment when da or mda/h is more than 1000 ft above aerodrome) when the required RVR is not met.

If it drops after this point you can continue down to minimum to see if you are visual.

30
Q

Do you need to take ceiling into account for commencement and continuation of a non-precision approach?

A

No

31
Q

For all instrument approaches with MDA/DA/DH is the RVR controlling?

A

Yes

Touchdown always controlling. If reported the mid end and stop end too.

Touchdown RVR : as published on chart.
With Rollout : midpoint 75 : stop end 75
Without rollout : midpoint 125 : stop end 75

32
Q

What is a non precision approach?

A

An approach with an MDA of >250ft and RVR or CMV of >750

Loc only, SRA, RNAV, VOR, NDB, LDA

33
Q

On a non precision approach, can you use VNAV when the outside temperature is

A

No,

VNAV is not allowed when temperature corrections are required (

34
Q

Are you allowed to modify an RNAV app in the database before flying it?

A

No.

Only altitude corrections due to temperature corrections are allowed. Approach must then be flown with selected vertical.

35
Q

What is the maximum error for tracks on a RNAV app in the box vs the chart?

A

3 degrees

36
Q

Until what altitude can you use the autopilot on a RNAV to visual ?

A

500 ft AGL

37
Q

What is a cat 1 approach

A

An approach with a da not less than 200 ft and RVR not less than 550 m

38
Q

Is an LTS cat 1 approach an autoland?

A

Yes

39
Q

What visual reference do you need for a LTS cat 1 approach?

A

3 consecutive lights and a later element.

40
Q

What is the difference in stable criteria for a circling approach?

A

Bank angle

41
Q

What is a circling approach ?

A

An instrument approach that requires a visual phase to position an aircraft for landing on a runway which is not suitable located for a straight in approach.

42
Q

Visual reference for an instrument approach?

A

Runway environment. E.g. Threshold, lights, other markings identifiable with the aerodrome.

43
Q

Can we circle at night?

A

Yes, but we need vertical guidance. (ILS, PAPI, VASI, etc)

44
Q

What is a cat 2 approach?

A

An precision approach with a DH lower than 200 ft but now lower than 100 ft. And RVR of not less than 300 m

45
Q

What is a cat 3 approach?

A

A precision instrument approach with a DH of less than 100 ft or no DH.
And a RVR of less than 200 m but no less than 75m

46
Q

What visual reference do you need for a cat 3 A or B fail passive approach?

A

3 consecutive lights

47
Q

For a cat 3 B fail operational approach with DH, what visual reference do you need?

A

1 centerline light

48
Q

What visual reference is required for a cat 3 B fail operational approach with no DH

A

No visual reference.

49
Q

If an item is deferred as MEL item. Is the commander required to accept the aircraft?

A

No. the commander is not obliged to operate with a particular defect, or combination of defects, if it is in his opinion that the deficiency could adversely affect the safety of the proposed flight.

50
Q

On a non commercial flight with no cabin crew, how many people can you take?

A
  1. Captain has to make sure they receive a briefing for safety procedures.
51
Q

What are the requirements of oxygen for flight crew

A

Oxygen mask within his immediate reach while at his duty station, excluding the portable one. If operating above 25000 the mask shall be of the quick donning type.

Sufficient oxygen for entire flight time above 10000 ft. Minimum of 2 hours(?)

Oxygen will be used after 30
Min above 10000 ft and always when above 13000 ft.
