- This is economically sustainable because supranational funding means guaranteed reliable income source, irrespective of fortunes of the Australian economy which means that the Great Barrier Reef can be protected for future generations

- There are 70 local indigenous groups involved in management and it is socially sustainable because Local involvement empowers people and GBRMPA can use local knowledge and expertise

- Another management technique is the banning of dredging
- This is sustainable becaause it stops silt being kicked up in to the oceans and settling on reef and discourages larger boats from using local ports – reducing traffic and therefore noise pollution and spill potential
