Changes Experienced
Had done new jobs and taken more responsibilities
Had travelled more inside and outside of USA
Had been subject of propaganda campaigns which encouraged them to be adventurous and showed them in new roles
Arguably Ww2 had taken social change much further than the first despite the fact
no symbolic change like gaining the vote
Dynamic leaders emerged on par with
suffrage leaders and the women who led the temperance movement
More women going into
higher education, more into professions, more had taken a leading part in civil rights movements, more were using birth control
By early 1960s there was a reaction against
disappointment of 1940s and 1950s = stage was set for what has been called the ‘New Feminism’
