What is codependency?
A
“any suffering and/or dysfunction that is associated with or results from focusing on the needs and behaviors of others”

Signs of codependency (5)

- difficulties with self-concept
- becoming imprisoned in their relationship
- feeling powerless
- extreme engagement in activities
- destructive compulsions and behavior

- Educational - dyfunctional family
- Psychological - psychological processes (self-esteem, boundaries..)
- Disease model - consistent symptomalogy

Codependency dg criteria
A
- sacrifice of self-esteem in order to be able to control both self and others, even when facing serious consequences

- disregarding own needs
- denial
- depression
- anxiety (separation anxiety)
- hypervigilance
- compulsions
- substance abuse
- stress-related medical illness
- has remained in a primary relationship with an active substance abuser for at least 2 years without seeking outside help
