8 - Class II Cavity Preparation w/ Silver Amalgam Restoration Flashcards
where do you place first increment of amalgam
as deep into gingival margin as you can
how to complete first condensation of class II
- condense along external and internal point angles
- vertically against gingival seat
- laterally against proximal walls and matrix band
what type of condensation done during 1st condensation of Class II
lateral condensation
when detaching amalgam from band w/ explorer, should you go down into the contact?
NO!
do you form occlusal embrasure with or without wedge in place
WITH
order of matrix removal
- free condensed amalgam w/ matrix band w/ tip of sharp explorer
- stablilize matrix band w/ finger and loosen both nuts on the retainer
- continue to stabilize band and amalgam w/ index finger and remove retainer
- remova matrix band from uninvolved contact while stabilizing restoration w/ index finger
- removed wedge w/ cotton pliers
- remove matrix band between amalgam and adjacent tooth
when checking amalgam on class II should you carve/check proximals or gingival first? why?
always gingival first -> leads to less overhangs
proximals second
when looking at completed carving what must you check for
- light reflect thru contact
- floss snap thru (do not use floss immediately after carving)
common errors in amalgam carving
anatomy too deep or flash
if proximal contact is poor and there is overhang why? what did provider forget to do?
no appropriate wedge and didn’t cure cabosurface and margin right away
difference between regular and finishing bur
regular = less flute
finishing = more flutes
T/F: you should run finishing discs between interproximals
NO!
common errors when polishing class II amalgam
- slight ledge present
- removed tooth to polish
- did not polish at all
