Focuses on the relationship between people and their environment.

Regions
A group of places that share a common feature.
-Beaches, mountains, coastal, and deserts
Movement
How do things move from one place to another.
- Bikes, cars, trains, and boats
Equator
Circles the middle of the earth at 0 degrees latitude, separates the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
Prime Meridian
Runs through western Europe and west Africa at 0 degrees longitude. Separates the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
Using directions
North, East, South, and West should always be used when giving someone directions.
Latitude and Longitude
Latitude runs East to west, between the equator and poles.
Longitude- North to South, between the poles.
Scale
Tells the size of an area of a map in real life. Usually found in the key of the map.
Locator Insert
Helps put the map area into a larger perspective.
Cartographer
Someone who makes maps.
Great Circle
A circle that passes through the center of the sphere (equator).
Physical Maps
A map that show landforms, bodies of water, and other geological features.
- Mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers, and deserts.
Political Map
Shows boundaries between nations, states and countries.
Tropics
The region surrounding the equator.
- Tropics of Cancer is in the Northern hemisphere
- Tropics of Capricorn is in the Southern hemisphere
Antarctic Circle
Is in the southern hemisphere, south pole.
Artic Circle
Is in the northern hemisphere. The north pole, and you can see the northern lights.
Climate Change
The change in global or regional climate patterns.
Weather
Daily change in the atmosphere and is constantly changing.
- Snow, rain, ice, and clear skies.
Climate
Average pattern of weather in a specific area over a long period of time.
- Temperatures, rainfall, and snowfall
Equinoxes
When the sun crosses the celestial equator. Day and night are approximately the same length.
Year
The amount of time it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun.
Day
Time it takes for the earth to rotate on its axis - 24 hours.
Revolution
Time it takes to go around something else (year).
Rotation
Times it takes to spin completely on its axis (day).
