The 7th chords are a little thicker sounding than triads, etc. These chords are pervasive throughout jazz, but they also appear in pop music, country, blues, latin & gospel. The added dissonance is an acquired taste, but you will soon appreciate how tremendous these chords sound.
What is the formula for any Major 7th Chord?
1 3 5 7 of any major scale
Example: C major 7th is C E G B
C (1st note of C major scale)
E (3rd note of C major scale)
G (5th note of C major scale)
B (7th note of C major scale)
