7J — Current Electricity Flashcards
What is resistance?
Resistance is a way of saying how difficult it is for electricity to flow through a circuit.
What are the three types of wires in an appliance and their roles?
— The live wire (brown) carries the current.
— The neutral wire (blue) completes the circuit.
— The earth wire (green and yellow stripes) is a safety wire.
What is a series circuit?
It is a circuit where there is one loop of wire. The current can only flow in one path.
What is a parallel circuit?
A parallel circuit contains multiple branches. The current splits when it reaches a branch, and joins together again at the end of the branches.
What is a fuse?
A fuse is a piece of wire that melts if too much electricity flows through it.
What is a current?
A current is the amount of electricity flowing in a circuit.
1) What is a current measured with?
2) What is the unit for a current called?
1) A current is measured using an ammeter.
2) The unit for current is an amp.
1) What is used to measure voltage?
2) What is the unit for voltage?
1) A voltmeter is used to measure voltage.
2) The unit for voltage are volts.
