7A The Chi-Squared Test Flashcards
What is chi squared
A statistical test used to see if the results of an experiment support the theory
The theory is used to predict a result
A null hypothesis must be what is the made
Chi squared equation
X squared equals the sum of (O-E) squared divided by E
E equals expected result
O equals observed result
What does a critical value mean
The value of X squared that corresponds to a 0.05 level of probability That the difference between the observed and expected results is due to chance
If your X squared value is larger than or equal to the critical value then there is a
significant difference between the observed and the expected results and the null hypothesis can be rejected
What does it mean if the x squared value is small than the critical value
There is no significant difference between the observed expected results and the null hypothesis can’t be rejected
