7.5 Flashcards
What is the standard for engineers drawings?
BS8888
What paper is usually used for engineers drawings?
A series
What is a pictorial (isometric) drawing?
Mathematical method drawn without perspective drawn at 30 degrees.
What does the title block consist of?
Drawing number Scale Title Dimensional tolerance notes Sheet of... Signature Section number Used on
What is a zone on a drawing?
Combination of horizontal and vertical coordinates on a drawing.
What is the revision process known as?
Raising an issue
Drawing issue increases by 1 digit
What is the complete parts list known as?
Bill of Materials
When would a hole include the depth?
If it is blind.
How are threaded holes defined?
Thick circular line for the crest, thin circular broken line for the root.
How is a counterbore portrayed?
2 thick lined circles.
What must be given for a spotface on a drawing?
The diameter.
How is a countersink portrayed?
2 concentric thick lined circles with details of the hole and angle and diameter of the countersink.
How is surface texture shown?
Roughness numbers or micrometers (smaller the number the smoother the surface)
What would 1 roughness number indicate?
The maximum roughness (2 numbers would indicate high and low limits)
Is first angle European or American?
European (third angle American)
What does an auxiliary view do?
Shows true shape of surface drawn at right angles
What are detail drawings also knows as?
FAB drawings (fabrication)
If the word assembly or installation doesn’t appear in the title of a drawing, what is it?
A detailed drawing
What is the purpose of an assembly drawing?
Show the relationship of 2 or more parts.
How is assembly defined?
A multiple-piece item that can be disassembled into its units parts without destruction.
What is a schematic drawing used for?
Illustrate a principle of operation.
What are schematic drawings ideal for?
Troubleshooting
What do wire diagrams indicate?
Size of wire and type of terminals.
What do wiring diagrams not show?
Exact image of the circuit (just principle of operation)
What is an aperture card?
Photograph drawings and store them on a card.
What is microfilm?
Hundreds of photos stored on one film.
What is CAD?
Engineering software for design (computer aided design)
