Splitting of large nucleus into two smaller nuclei plus neutrons and energy and photons.

A
Joining of two light nuclei to form heavier nucleus plus energy.

How does a star produce energy?
A
Star produces energy by fusion in its core, temperature and pressure are high. Temperature must be high for nuclei to overcome electrical repulsion, pressure must be high to ensure high probability of collisions and further fusion.
