What is the induced potential?
The potential difference caused by the constant movement of a wire into a magnetic field.
What is the generator effect?
When a potential difference is caused by the constant movement of a wire in a complete circuit into a magnetic field, inducing a current.
What are the factors that affect the size and direction of the induced potential?
Changing size:
- Stronger magnetic field
- Increase speed of movement
- Shape into coil and increase number of turns.
Changing direction:
- Moving magnet in and out of wire/solenoid.
- Switch poles of magnet
Describe how an alternator generates an alternating current.
- The maximum potential different is when the coil is horizontal.
2.
Describe how a dynamo generates a direct current.
