Gross national product (GNP)
The dollar amount of all services produced by a country’s citizens in one year.
Gross national income(GNI)
The dollar amount of all services produced by a country’s citizens in one year.
Remittances
Money immigrants send back to family and friends in their home countries, often in cash, forming an important part of the economy in many poorer countries.
Per capita
a measure of the total value of goods and services produced in a country, divided by the country’s population
Purchasing power parity
a measure of how many units of currency are needed in one country to buy the amount of goods and services that one unit of currency will buy in another country.
Formal sector
The legal economy that is taxed and monitored by a government and is included in a governments
Informal sector
economic activities that are not regulated or recognized by the government.
Gini coefficient
measure of statistical dispersion intended to represent the income distribution of a nation’s residents
Life expectancy
the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year, if mortality at each age remains constant.
Literacy rate
the percentage of people ages 15 and above who can, with understanding, read and write a short, simple statement on their everyday life.
Gender gap
A difference between men and women in their opportunities, rights, benefits, behavior, or attitudes.
Gender inequality index(GII)
An indicator constructed by the U.N. to measure the extent of each country’s gender inequality in terms of reproductive health, empowerment, and the labor market.
Human development index(HDI)
the process of enlarging people’s freedoms and opportunities and improving their well-being.
