7.17 Flashcards
What is used to tow aircraft on soft ground?
A towing bridle (attached to both main wheels)
What direction should aircraft be towed on soft ground?
Forward.
In relation to wind, how should an aircraft be parked?
Into the wind.
What is recommended for a towing bar to be used with?
A damping system.
What are the speed limits for an aircraft with the doors shut?
Tractor with a tow bar (25 km/h)
Tractor without tow bar (32km/h)
What are the speed limits for an aircraft with the doors open?
10km/h
What is MTW?
Maximum Taxi Weight.
What is the engine thrust resistance at ground idle?
400 dan (for each engine)
What coefficients are used for the friction between the tyres of the tow tractor and the ground?
Asphalt= 0.8
Wet asphalt= 0.75
What is the maximum angle a nose wheel can be steered?
70 degrees.
What can be used to steer the aircraft if the nose wheel steering is not available?
Differential use of landing gear wheel brakes.
What CAP is the Visual Aids Handbook?
CAP637 (for marshalling)
How many jacks are used to lift an aircraft.
3.
What are the 4 types of jack?
Bottle jack
Bipod
Tripod
Quadrapod
What type of jack is used for wheel changes?
Bottle jack.
What jack is used for uneven ground?
Quadrapod.
What range of heights can hydraulic jacks be?
1-5m
How is lifting for aircraft recovery carried out?
Lifting airbags.
Why is shoring done?
Give support to the wings to release loads on the structure before repair work.
Why is protection required on probes and sensors when parking aircrafts?
Prevent ingress of moisture and insects.
What chapter is the parking and storage of aircraft under?
ATA chapter 10.
What button switch closes the avionics ventilation skin valves?
Ditching button.
How long is an aircraft parked for to be classed as being parked for an extended period of time?
More than 2 days.
Why do seats need to be covered when parking for extended periods?
Protect from UV sunlight.
When parking for extended periods, at what periodic intervals should the aircraft be checked?
7 and 15 day intervals.
When parking for extended periods, why should the aircraft be moved every so often?
To prevent brinelling of the bearings.
What should weekly tests be for when storing aircraft?
Evidence of birds nesting.
How often should aircraft be moved to prevent brinelling when storing aircraft.
Bi-weekly.
If an aircraft is parked for more than 20 months then what is recommended?
Old tyres are used on the aircraft.
What should be done to the doors every month for stored aircraft?
Open and reapply protective greases to door seals.
What are the 2 types of aviation fuel?
Aviation gasoline and turbine fuel.
What is aviation gasoline graded by?
Octane number.
What the does the octane number indicate?
The higher number the better the ability to resist knocking.
What is knocking?
One or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside of envelope of normal combustion front.
What is the result of knocking?
Dramatic increase of cylindrical pressure and metallic pinging sound.
What are the grades of fuel coloured?
80- Red
100- Green
100LL (low lead)- Blue
What are the 3 turbine engine fuels?
Jet A -freeze point -40 Celsius
Jet A-1 - freeze point -47 celsius
Jet B- -freeze point -50 Celsius
What colour are all turbine fuels?
Colourless or light straw colour.
What must turbine fuels never be used for?
Piston engine aircraft.
What are the 2 types of fuelling?
Gravity over wing
Pressure
What can the refuelling pressure reach?
50psi (1000 gallons per minute)
What is the maximum defuelling pressure?
-11 psi
Why is fuel from one aircraft not allowed to be put into another?
Avoid contamination such as water, microbiological growth or debris.
What are the 5 ice and snow formations?
Rime ice Glaze ice Hoar frost Pack snow Debris ice
What is the most dangerous for, anion of ice?
Glaze ice.
What ice weighs a lot and can affect unequal loading on wings?
Glaze ice.
What thickness of frost on the underside of the wing is permitted for take off?
Less than 3mm
What is the freezing point for an 80/20 fluid/water mix?
-10 celsius.
What is the freezing point for a 60/40 fluid/water mix?
-50 Celsius.
What info must be included in the anti-icing code?
Type of fluid
Percentage of fluid to water
Time application began
What is used to test hydraulic pressure to hydraulic systems?
Hydraulic test rig.
