- Fire hazard
- Reactivity hazard
- Environmental hazards
When was Manual Handling Operations Regulations ?
1992
When was the Electricity at Work Regulation ?
1989
What must be done prior to charging an a/c system with compressed gas ?
Purge the hose
Pressure of compressed air in workshop ?
80psi
What pressure can be deadly in the wrong circumstance ?
Little as 12psi
- can also blow an eye out of its socket
What pressure can rupture the oesophagus ?
5 psi
What pressure can rupture an ear drum ?
40psi
What psi is enough to use as cleaning ?
30psi - over this can lose a threat
Why must oxygen coming into contact with oils and greases be avoided ?
Can cause oil and grease to spontaneously combust, without a flame.
What must be immediately done after a chemical spill, what after this ?
- Evacuate + Alert
- Secure the space
- Confine the chemicals
- Clean up
What must be done after all personnel have evacuated after a chemical spill ?
Turn off any ignition and heat sources

- Removing heat
Class A fire ?
Combustible solids
Class B fire ?
Flammable liquids
Class C fires ?
Flammable gases
Class D fires ?
Metals
Class F fires ?
Cooking oils
( F for fryer )
What are the 6 extinguishing agents ?

Carbon dioxide
Dry powder
Foam
Wet chemical
Halogenated Hydrocarbon
What are the 6 extinguishing agents ?
Water
Carbon dioxide
Dry powder
Foam
Wet chemical
Halogenated Hydrocarbon
Water Extinguisher:
- How does it work?
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- works by removing heat
- extinguishes class A only
Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher:
- How does it work?
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- removes heat AND removes oxygen
- used on Class B fires + Electrical Fires
Dry Powder Extinguisher:
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- where must these not be used ?
“ABC” extinguisher - used on Class A,B + C fires
- also electrical fires up to 1kV
Do not use in enclosed spaces, since it can be inhaled.
Foam Extinguisher:
- How does it work?
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- removes oxygen AND heat
- used for Class A + B fires
Wet Chemical Extinguisher:
- How does it work?
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- removes heat AND performs a saponification process, which prevents re - ignition
- used on Class F and sometimes Class A fires
Halogenated Carbon Extinguisher:
- How does it work?
- What classes of fire can it extinguish?
- chemically disrupts combustion
- used on Class B + C fires. Also Class A + D, but not as effective
What is the law surrounding Halon ?
Production ceased on Jan 1, 1994
However, still legal to purchase and use RECYCLED Halon
What are the 2 types of Halon Extinguishers ?
What type is used where ?
