7.1 review Flashcards
what acronym can you use to remember the causes of any disease e.g cerebellar disorder?
A VITAMIN C
A = aquired
V = vascular e.g strokes I = infection T = traumatic A = autoimmune M = metabolic e.g vitamin deficiency I = idiopathic N = neoplastic
C = congenital
what is spinal shock and what do you seen in cases of it?
spinal shock = when lower motor neurones are acutely deprived of their inputs e.g UMN leisons
what you will see…
1st few days = LMN activity decreases. Get flaccid limbs
days-weeks = LMN activity increases and become hyper polarised. Get hyper-reflexia and spasticity.
how can you get macula sparing?
macula has extra shot of blood via middle cerebral artery
so, if you lose your posterior cerebral artery, you will have macula sparing to your vision as long as you still have you middl cerebral artery
what spinal levels would you administer an epidural?
L3/L4
L4/L5
insert till you pop through ligamentum flavum = then your in the epidural space
what is the aim of epidurals?
to inhibit your sensory fibres.
It bathes your dorsal root ganglia.
administer too much epidural = will inhibit motor fibres = not good
why would your legs go warm during an epidural?
as you anaesthetise the outflow parasympathetics and vasodilation
where do inferior optic radiation run through and what do they carry?
inferior optic radiations run through the temporal lobe
the inferior optic radiations carry info from the inferior retina = the superior visual field.
where do superior optic radiations run through and what do they carry?
superior optic radiations run through the parietal lobe
superior optic radiations project superior retina field = the inferior visual field
what is the role of the medial longitudinal fasciculus pathway?
allows eyes to communicate and know what the other eye is doing
