Speeds in a TBW
Maximum of 50mph (unless line speed is lesser)
15mph at points if you are the first train across the TBW or it is your first time
Before entering TBW you must ensure?
- There is a hand signaller present
- The hand signaller has handed you a TBW ticket
- you have checked and understood the TBW ticket
- you have confirmed and clarified the hand signaller instructions
- hand signaller has authorised you to pass the signal at danger and has shown a yellow flag for you to proceed.
- temporary isolate TPWS
When a TBW ticket is not required?
- Assisting a failed train
- Assisting a train that passed without authority
- Recovering a decoupled train
- Evacuating passengers from a failed train
What must you do if you are the first train through TBW?
- Check points are set correctly
* Go over points at 15mph
What to do at the exit signal?
- STOP!!! Even if signaller is showing a *yellow flag or signal is showing a proceed aspect.
- Hand over the TBW ticket to the hand signaller.
- Wait for authority to pass the signal at danger or even at a proceed aspect
- reinstate TPWS
What to check on the TPWS ticket?
- Date/time
- signals to pass at danger
- signals to ignore
- level crossings
- train number
- line TBW applies to
- speed limits
- signallers workstation
- additional information
Recognising a pilot man?
Arm band with a red background and white writing which says PILOTMAN
What to do before entering SLW?
- make sure pilotman is present
- make sure you understand and confirm the information/instructions from pilotman
- make sure you receive a SLW ticket from the pilotman and you have checked that the information is correct and you have a clear understanding.
- get authority to pass signal at danger
What speed must you do in SLW?
WRONG DIRECTION- max speed of 50MPH unless Line speed in lesser
RIGHT DIRECTION- Line speed
Where and when would you get a hand signal?
WHERE
*At the end of SLW (where you will be stopped to be crossed back over to normal working)
WHEN
- If there is no PLS or main aspect signal to cross you back over.
- Poor visibility and can not see PLS
What if your the first train through SLW?
You must make sure:
- that all points are set correctly
- advise anyone near the line that SLW is in operation
- Pilotman may come with you to advise work sites of SLW (follow his instructions)
What to do with your ticket once passed the SLW?
Write cancelled on the ticket and hand back to either a pilotman at the end of the SLW or hand in at the end of your duty if one is not present.
When is a SLW ticket not needed to enter?
- when assisting a failed train
- when assisting a train that has passed without authority
- when evacuating passengers from a failed train
- recovering a decoupled train
When is SLW ticket is required?
At all times unless one of the four
