What is the definition of wholesale dealing ?
Sale to a person (or company) who buys for the purpose of selling again
What is the difference between whole sale supply and retain supply
Retail supply is supplying medicines directly to the patient with them having the intent to use the medicine for themselves
What is needed for a pharmacy to trade commercially (wholesale supply with profit)?
- Need wholesale dealers licence (WDA(H))
- Must apply good distribution practice (GDP) standard
- Have a ‘responsible person’ named on the licence (usually the pharmacist)
When can wholesale dealing happen without a wholesale dealers licence ?
- when its not commercial trade; not for a profit
- If a small quantity of medicines is supplied to another pharmacy for individual patient needs
- When supplying to another healthcare provider (e.g to a GP or dentist)
What are the conditions for wholesale supply without a licence ?
- Purchase must be authorised to sell, supply or administer the goods in the course of their business
- Whole packs only
- Medicines should not be labeled
- UK licensed medicines
Who can RECEIVE medicines by wholesale ?
- Persons (usually health care professionals)

When is a signed order(requisition) legally required ?
- CDs (schedule 1,2,3)

- If a CD record has been made
- A copy of the order or invoice is retained for 2 years
(But it is good practice to make a POR in addition)

- Name of person requesting
- Address of person requesting
- Name of drug, dose, form
- Quantity
- Purpose
- Price
