What is misconduct?
This is behaviour or actions that breach the COC or other Police policies. While misconduct may not justify dismissal, it may result in formal disciplinary action.
What is serious misconduct?
This is behaviour or actions that breach the COC or other Police policies and employment agreements, and seriously undermine or damage the trust and confidence Police has in you, calling into question if the employment relationship can continue. It is behaviour or actions that may justify dismissal.
Examples of misconduct
Breaching Police policies or procedures
Treating a person harshly
Using abusive or offensive language
Misuse of Police computer
Being absent or late for work without reason
Failure to declare a conflict of interest
Misuse of Police property
Not complying with instruction without a good and sufficient reason
Bringing the Police into disrepute through any actions or behaviour.
Examples of serious misconduct.
Being convicted of an offence
Corruption
Bullying or harassment
Sexual misconduct
Theft or dishonesty of any kind
Unauthorised access to Police info
Repeated misconduct
False declaration or statement
Excessive unjustified violence

What is Kia Tu?
It is the new approach for preventing and addressing unacceptable behaviour in Police.
Standing up for what is right, taking a stand for others, doing the right thing, being seen and heard, and being proud of who you are.
What is the purpose of Kia tu?
To prevent and resolve harmful behaviour at work by enabling anyone to speak up about concerns at work, be heard, and have their confidentiality protected and situation resolved promptly.
Provide guidance on how to identify different types of unacceptable behaviour, address and resolve it and provide advice on how to access support.
Achieve a shared understanding of what is and is not unacceptable behaviour in the workplace…

What is Early Intervention?
Early Intervention identifies employees who may not be performing to an acceptable and professional standard, who’s past and present behaviour and traits may be indicators that they pose a risk to themselves and Police through future misconduct or unethical behaviour.
Early intervention is preventative in nature and aimed at engaging with employees in a supportive manner, such as mentoring, coaching etc.
It is not a disciplinary process.
