Pre-Ceramic Solders
• This is a basic description of the process.
• First you insert your unit (and we are talking about pre-ceramic
soldering at this point) on the prepared teeth in the patient’s mouth, and the next thing is to index the unit.
◦ You are using the index to establish the exact ____ that you want the units to be joined in.
◦ It is important that the space between – in this case we are joining these two units together and this is a separate unit we are joining them together (he points all around the pontic, I think he means that the two prepped “units” on abutment teeth are being joined by the pontic) and and notice there is a little gap here (circled, I think its the space between unit and pontic margins?). We will talk a little more about the gap but in general it is supposed to be about 0.20 mm wide and it should have two parallel surfaces about 0.20 mm thickness.
◦ So the units are inserted and you index it and the indexing is usually done – in this case its showing a glass of peri (?) indexing but there is also self curing acrylic that you can use to index your units. Once you have your indexed unit you can lift the whole thing and it comes up together.
The next thing is to ____ the unit. This is the wax ring (circled whole thing >) similar to the casting ring that we spoke about not too long ago.
◦ So we have a wax ring around the unit and you pour investment into this portion here (pink “investment” portion in diagram). It’s important that you don’t block the ____ that you are going to fill. So sometimes you might put a little piece of wax in there to close the space so when you are investing your investment doesn’t go by that space (he points to the orange circle from before).
After you’ve invested you remove your soldering index. Then you ____ it in the burnout oven, similar to what you do just before you cast your alloy you put this into an oven and heat it
And then you put it down, turn it upright with your unit showing – you heat with a torch , put a little solder here into the gap and you heat it until it melts and flows to fill the gap.
You now have your soldered unit as shown here.
These are the steps you go through if you are going to solder pieces of your restoration together.

TORCH SOLDERING Soldering is done under \_\_\_\_ flame. A \_\_\_\_ torch is used for this purpose. The torch flame is brushed over the investment block until \_\_\_\_. Heat until solder flows to fill \_\_\_\_

Heat Sources
These are the different types of sources. ____ I mentioned is what you find in the common pipeline and you can buy ____ to use depending on the alloy you are soldering.
You must follow manufacturer’s instructions to pick the right gas to use.
