7 Petrissage Techniques Flashcards
1
Q
Compression
A
- reinforced direct pressure to localized spot with muscle
- creates deformation of skin
- applied with multiple contact surfaces
- creates “ischemic” effect
- 20 - 60 seconds, with light - heavy pressure
2
Q
Muscle Squeezing
A
- muscle compressed between palm and fingers or palms
- pressure directed slightly vertically
- 10 - 20 seconds at 1 - 3 sec. per cycle of C/R
3
Q
Wringing
A
- both hands conform to tissue
- tension created by hands moving in opposite direction
- 20 - 60 seconds/ 1 - 3 seconds per cycle of C/R
4
Q
Picking-Up
A
- palm/finger-tips/thumbs squeeze and lift tissue from underlying structures
- vertical pressure
- 20 - 60 seconds/ 1 - 3 seconds per cycle of C/R
5
Q
“C” Scooping/Open “C”/“C” Kneading
A
- create “C” using palm/finger-tips/thumbs to repetitively squeeze/lift tissue from underlying structure
- create tension/torque/release of tissue using a vertical pressure
- 1 or 2 hands simultaneously
- 20 - 60 seconds/1 - 3 seconds per cycle of C/R
6
Q
Kneading
A
- using any contact surface
- rhythmical/unidirectional circular movements
- pressure peaks in the middle of technique
- first half is pressure, second half is release
- broad contact or specific kneading
- 20 - 60 seconds or more
7
Q
Muscle Stripping
A
- using any contact surface
- moderate to deep pressure
- contours of muscles are followed
- applied along fibre direction of muscle
