When is soft soldering used ?
A
Commonly used when manufacturing electrical circuits and when plumbing with copper pipe work

When is hard soldering used ?
A
Used to join precious metals together the heat is applied using a blow torch

How does brazing work (joining steel parts) ?
A
The flux (borax) is applied to the cleaned joint before heating. The flux prevents the steel from oxidising during heating. Once the steel is red hot the brass is introduced.

What is oxyacetylene gas welding ?
A
Commonly used to permanently join mild steel. A mixture of oxygen and acetylene burns at 3500 degrees, allowing welding to take place

What is electric arc welding ?
A
A process used to join metal to metal by using electricity to heat the metal.
