7 Evidence based study tactics Flashcards
Spaced repetition
Review your notes by quizing yourself on key concepts according to a spaced repetition interval
Active recall
Quiz yourself without looking by using flashcards or by doing practice problems. You can also write or draw as much information about a concept as possible and then refer back to your notes to identify knowledge gaps.
Elaborate
Create questions asking how and why a concept is the way it is and relating it to something you already know. One method of doing this is the feynman technique.
Interleaving
Learning/quizzing yourself on multiple topics in a different order in the same study session. Spend 1-25 min on a particular topic and move onto the next one.
Concrete examples
Find an example for a concept you are trying to learn and explain how that example represents the concept.
Dual coding
Learn/study through multiple platforms of media. For example quiz your self on a lecture, read topic from textbook, create visuals for concepts, and describe the meaning behind visuals.
