Change Management
Ensures that an organization follows a standard process for requesting, reviewing, approving, and implementing changes
Request for Change ingredients
Description, expected impact, risk assessment, rollback plan, identity of those involved, schedule, affected items
Configuration Management
Tracks the way specific devices are setup, including OS settings and software inventory
Baselines
Provide a snapshot of configuration at a point in time used for assessing if a system has changed outside of an approved process
Versioning
Incremental numbers to indicate changes, typically as 3 numbers
Asset management
Typically a lifecycle that tracks where hardware is, requested to go, is shipped, and who has it, and confirmation it’s received
Asset tag
An identifying sticker that has an indication of property, serial number, and other features
Release management
Final testing in change management that software functions properly
