6th grade science review Flashcards
What is potential energy?
It is the amount of energy that is stored in an object. (For example if you are about to go down a slide, and you are on top of the slide, you have kinetic energy.)
What is kinetic energy?
It is the amount of energy a moving object has due to its motion. (For example, if you are going down a slide, you have kinetic energy because you are in motion and actively moving.)
What is energy transfer?
Energy transfer is the movement of an object from one location to another.
What is energy transformation?
Energy transformation is energy changing from one form to another.
What is density? What is the formula to calculate density?
Density is how compacted the mattes in an object is. The formula for density is mass over volume.
How do you know if an object will float or sink?
Water has a mass of 1g/ml which means that if an object is more than 1g/ml, it will sink, and if an object is less than 1g/ml, it will float.
What is volume and its formula? What is meniscus?
Volume is the amount of space an object takes up (The formula is mass/density=volume). Meniscus is the upward or downward curve that marks how filled a substance is.
What is mass and what is the formula used to calculate mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object (The formula is density times velocity is equal to the mass).
