Tone
When a word implies something else or evokes an idea
Connotative
use the five senses (sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell) to add depth of detail to writing
Sensory detail
a piece of information from a text that we use to support our ideas, beliefs, opinions, and arguments
Text evidence
something is clearly stated or explained (example: The party is at my house.)
Explicit
presenting facts along with rational or logical statements to support your claim
Argumentative
prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, and is generally regarded as unfair.
Bias
sorting things into groups or categories on a single basis of division
Classification
letters that slope to the right
Italics
the word used to describe something that happens or is shown in time order
Chronological
the most important point of the message the author wants to share
Central idea
helps the reader feel what characters are feeling and helps the reader place themselves, mentally and emotionally, into the setting of the story.
Mood
adding more detail to better explain what has already been said
Elaborate
to express a thought, feeling, or idea so that it is understood by other people
Convey
the conversation between two or more characters in a story
Dialogue
gives concise information about what the whole essay is about, including the topic of the paper
Thesis
the reason for or intent in writing
Author’s purpose
one that is written by someone who is an expert in their discipline and is free of errors and bias
