Setting
Where or when a story takes place
Plot
Devise the sequence of events in a story
Protagonist
An advocate or champion of a particular cause or idea
Antagonist
A character who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something
Complications (Conflict)
A circumstance that complicates something
Exposition
The characters, setting, and basic situation are revealed
Inciting Incident
The event that sets the story in motion
Rising Action
Where complications arise
Climax
Usually the turning point
Falling Action
The events that follow the climax and lead to the resolution
Resolution
The conflicts are resolved
Foreshadowing
Hints or clues suggesting what may happen in the story
Cliffhanger
An ending to a section, chapter, or book that leaves the reader wondering
Suspense
The anxiety a reader feels about what may happen next in a story
Flashback
Interrupting the plot of the story to recreate an incident from an earlier time
