6.2 states of matter Flashcards
What positions are particles of a solid in?
Held next to each other and fixed positions
How are the particles arranged in a liquid?
The particles in a liquid move about a random and are in contact with each other
How are the particles arranged in a gas?
Particles in a gas move about randomly and the far apart (so much less dense than solids and liquids)
What is the least energetic of the state of matter?
Solids
What is the most energetic state of matter?
Gas
Are the particles in liquids more energetic than solids?
Yes, they are more energetic than particles in a solid
What are physical changes?
A change in which no new substances are produced
What happens to the mass of the substance when it changes state?
The mass of a substance stays the same because the number of particles stays the same
