6.2 - Patterns Of Inheritance - transferred Flashcards
What is dihybrid inheritance?
Inheritance which involves two gene loci
What does true breeding mean?
Means that the organism is homozygous for either the dominant or the recessive allele
What is the usual ratio when two heterozygous parents are crossed in a dihybrid cross?
9:3:3:1 ratio
What is linkage?
Two or more gene loci which are on the same chromosome
Why are linkage genes inherited together?
Chromosomes are the unit of transmission during sexual reproduction, so linked genes aren’t free to carry out independent assortment because they are on the same chromosome
Does Autosomal Linkage involve the Sex Chromosomes?
NO
When are linked genes inherited as one unit?
When no crossing over of non-sister chromatids occurs during Prophase I
What are Recombinant genes?
The product of crossing over of non-sister chromatids during sexual reproduction
When are recombinant genes formed?
When crossing of non-sister chromatids occurs during Prophase I
