6.1.1.4 - Power Flashcards
How is power defined?
Power is defined as the rate at which energy is transferred or the rate at which work is done.
What is the power equation?
Power = energy transferred OR work done ÷ time
Power in watts, W.
Energy transferred in joules, J.
Time in seconds, s.
Work done in joules, J.
What is power? What does it means>
It is the rate which energy is transferred or the rate which work is done, per second. This means the higher the power of a device, the more energy it will transfer per second.
What is happening when a force causes an object/body to move?
Work is being done on the object to by the force.
Work is a measure of what?
Work is a measure of
the energy transfer when a force (F) moves an object through a distance (D).
What is Energy Transferred (Joules, J) equal to?
It is equal to Work Done (Joules, J).
What are the two factors that determine the amount of work done when a force acts on an object?
The size of the force acting upon the object.
The distance which the force causes the object/body to move in direction of the force.
