6.1 Simple Circuits Flashcards
What is in an atom?
An atom consists of a nucleus (protons positive charge, neutrons no charge), and surrounded by electrons negative charge.
What is static electricity?
A buildup of electric charge, occurs when two surfaces rub against each other.
What causes a spark or a lightning bolt?
When electrons jump across a gap from a negatively charged surface to a positively charged surface.
What is current?
Made up of electrons moving along a wire.
What happens to the energy when electrons pass through things?
The energy is converted into light, heat, and movement.
How does current power electrical appliances?
Current powers electrical appliances because the electrons flow through their circuits.
What is a simple electric circuit?
A simple electric circuit is a path where electrons deliver energy.
What does an electric circuit need?
An electric circuits needs a battery, an energy user, wires, and a switch.
What is a circuit diagram?
A circuit diagram is a simplified version of a real circuit and it shows how all the components are connected.
