1
Q

What is dynamic equilibrium? (3)

A

(1) when the rate of forward reaction = rate of backward reaction (in a reversible reaction)
(2) and the conc of reactants & products is constant
(3) in a closed system

Q

Describe how chemical equilibrium can be reached in this reversible reaction:
A + B —–> C + D
(5)

A

(1) the forward rate is fast, because there’s a lot of A & B
(2) There’s no reverse reaction as there’s no C & D
(3) as the conc. of C & D build up, the reverse reaction speeds up
(4) at the same time, the conc. of A & B decreases, so the forward reaction slows down
(5) a point is reached where exactly the same number of particles are changing from A + B to C + D as are changing from C + D to A + B (equilibrium)

Q

How can you change the proportions of the reactants & products in a reversible reaction? (1)
