Q

Importance of taxis/kinesis

A

Increases chance of survival:
- Towards light - food - more energy and reproduction + find a mate so more likely to reproduce
- Away from a light - hide from predators + remain in moist conditions to prevent dehydration- water is needed for hydrolysis reactions - forming cytoplasm

Q

IAA

A
  • Made in cells of shoot and root tips
  • Stimulates cell elongation in shoots

Q

Advantage of shoots growing towards light

A
  • More light absorbed for photosynthesis - more glucose made for making starch, cellulose for cell walls and for respiration resulting in more ATP for mitosis/growth

Q

Advantage of roots growing towards gravity

A
  • More water absorbed - more photosynthesis- more glucose - more respiration- more ATP made for growth
-Nitrates used to make proteins - ATP for energy release/ respiration/ growth - DNA for DNA replication -RNA for protein synthesis- increases growth
  • Phosphates - phospholipids for cell membrane- ATP for energy release/ respiration/ growth - DNA for DNA replication -RNA for protein synthesis- increases growth
