6- Science- Mission Vocab Test- Hurricanes and Volcanos Flashcards
To study for Mission Vocab Test so you can know the words that people will use during the E-Mission.
VT or Volcanic Tremors
Caused by magma pushing though the mountain.
RF or Rock Fall
Rocks falling caused by internal pressure moving the surface slightly.
Ash Clouds
Appear when pressure is released if a volcano is plugged. If there is no cloud that means the pressure is building up and their will be a HUGE explosion!
Land Deformation
Magma pushes up the land on top of it. Near the vent it may start bulging.
LEO
Low Earth Orbiting Satellite.
ERT
Emergency Response Team.
Tropical Storm
Winds turn around the center and speeds reach 39mph.
Hurricane
When the circulating winds reach 74mph it’s a hurricane. If there is a decrease in air pressure that means the storm surge is going up and also means danger.
Hurricane Eye
A calm area at the center of the hurricane.
Hurricane Eye Wall
A band of clouds surrounding the eye. The wall usually has the strongest winds.
Hurricane Watch
A message issued when a hurricane is likely to hit land within 24-36 hours.
Hurricane Warning
A warning is issued when a hurricane is likely to hit land within 24 hours.
Saffir-Simpson Intensity Scale
A system used to rate storm according to circulating winds.
ETA
Estimated Time of Arrival.
