What is the definition of a reline?
Adding a new base material to the tissue surface of an existing denture in a quantity sufficient to fill the space which exists between
the original denture contour and the altered tissue contour
What is a Rebase?
Replacing the entire denture base material of an existing denture
What are the three main types of Relines?
Temporary
Soft
Definitive/Permanent
When/Where are Temp relines used?
Post immediate dentures
After implant surgery
Tissue conditioning - when grossly ill fitting dentures
What/Why are soft relines used?
Useful if Px has parafunc habits and very atrophic ridges and in cancer/cleft patients (Obturators)
What are problems with soft liners?
Plasticizer leaches and it deteriorates with time and harbours microorganisms
The soft liner deteriorates after being worn too long
There is no resemblance to the anatomy in a patients mouth
what are the diff types Soft lining materials?
Heat Cured Acrylics
Self cured acrylics
Heat cured silicones
Self cured silicones
What are permanent/definiative relines? and are they lab or chairside based?
Made of hard acrylic
Often lab based in heat cured acrylic
For a Definitive reline - how is it useful?
Useful in peripheral seal problems
Correction of errors following inadequate master impressions
Immediate/post-immediate dentures
Prolongs lifespan of some older dentures
When Rebasing a denture what is done to the undercuts?
The undercuts are removed to allow for the denture to be removed
The undercuts are removed to cast a new model
What is the denture base used as/ seen as ?
A master impression
When a wash impression is taken why is the mouth closed?
So that the teeth are in the correct position in relation to the opposing arch
What is important not to forget when renbasing a denture?
Placing a post damn
What type of method is used to inject acrylic into the space where the palatal impression is removed?
Dundee injection method
What are key final steps to do when rebasing or relining dentures when being sent to the clinic?
Disinfect it
Insert it
Carry out insertion checks similar to a finish og a new denture and arrange a review
