Need for new Markets

A

Recall from Chapter 1 that the United States cancelled the Reciprocity Treaty with Britain in 1865. This hada negative impact on the economy of the colonies. As a result, they were

Separate colonial governments

A

Although the colonies remained part of Britain, they operated
independently of one another. They pursued policies that reflected
their own best interests.
