- Deny the allegations in the complaint that he wishes to contest
- Specify any affirmative defenses that he wishes to assert

It is admitted

It is waived
What is a counterclaim?
Any affirmative cause of action that a Defendant has against the plaintiff
Where may a Defendant raise a counterclaim?
In the answer

Serve another pleading, called a reply

Denials and affirmative defenses directed at the counterclaim
