What are the 6 pack regulations?
Management of Health and Safety at Work Reg. (MHSW)
Manual Handling Operations Reg. (MHO)
Display Screen Equipment Reg. (DSE)
Workplace Reg. (WHSW)
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Reg. (PUWER)
Personal Protective Equipment Reg. (PPE)
MHSW regulations?
Employer must assess all significant risks to employees (more than 5 then record of assessment needed)
If new or expectant mothers can’t work safely, they get paid leave
Employer must provide relevant training to all employees on health and safety
MHO regulations?
Employer must avoid the need for any manual handling which involves injury risks
If not possible, must assess task taking into account the risks it involves
Employer must reduce risk to lowest reasonable level
DSE regulations?
Employer must provide users with healthy and safety training on the use of their workstation
Daily work routine of users must be planned to be periodically interrupted, resting eyes
Users are entitled to a an eyesight test paid for by their employer (must be repeated)
WHSW regulations?
The workplace and equipment must be maintained in good condition, with a planned maintenance
Enclosed workplaces must be provided with fresh or purified air (vent)
A reasonable temp must be maintained I side the building during working hours with thermometers
PUWER regulations?
Work equipment must be looked after, and be suitable for the workplace
Machinery should be able to be isolated from its energy source (when appropriate)
When necessary, equipment must be stabilised by clamping or other means
PPE regulations?
Employer must provide suitable PPE when the risk cannot be otherwise controlled
When one or more items are needed, they need to be compatible to be used at the same time
Employees must use PPE as directed, and report any loss or obvious defect the their employer

What is RIDDOR?
Reporting of injuries, disease, dangerous occurences reg.
What must be reported?
Any accident/incident that’s connected to work and results in a person being off for more than 3 days, must be reported to HSE within 10 days
RIDDOR - who is effected?
Everyone, employees must report and employers must tell HSE
RIDDOR - minor injuries?
Results in a cut, sever bruising, fractured fingers
RIDDOR - major injuries?
Broken bones, loss of sight, amputation
RIDDOR - what is a near miss?
Unplanned event that does not cause injury but could have done
RIDDOR - reportable disease?
Skin - skin cancer
Lung - Occupational asthma
