Describe the divisions of the nervous system
A
- divided into CNS and peripheral NS
- CNS consists of brain and spinal cord
- peripheral NS divided into somatic and autonomic NS
- autonomic governs automatic behaviours, somatic controls muscles + receives sensory info
- autonomic divided into sympathetic and parasympathetic NS
- sympathetic prepares body for fight or flight, parasympathetic provides rest and digest functions

Describe the structure and function of a neuron
A
- consists of cell body, axons and dendrites
- neurons enable communication within NS
- cell body has genetic material, axons carry messages away from cell body, dendrites carry functional info to cell body
- axons can be myelinated to increase speed of nerve transmission
