Assess skin - color, temperature, moisture, presence or absence of hair.

Assess for peripheral edema. Palpate edematous areas - bilateral 1+ = 5 mm 2+ = 5-10 mm, 3+ = 10-20 mm, 4+= > 20 mm

Palpate pedal pulses bilateral assess for equality of strength. 0 = no pulse, 1+ = weak, 2+ = strong 3+ = bounding

Assess cap refill bilateral - normal within 3 sec; within 5 sec for older adult
