6 - Addition and Condensation Polymerisation Flashcards
What undergoes Addition Polymerisation?
Alkenes undergo addition polymerisation.
What are addition polymers made from?
They’re made from one type of monomer only. Only one product is produced.
What’s the general formula for Addition Polymerisation?
(THIS IS A VISUAL DIAGRAM)
What’s the functional group of an Addition Polymer?
The C=C double bond.
How do you identify Condensation Polymerisation?
Two monmers with two functional groups then it’s condensation polymerisation. Or, if there’s one monomer with two functional groups then it’s condensation polymerisation. if it has an amide/ester linkage it’s condensation polymerisation.
How do you identify Addition Polymerisation?
If the backbone is a continuous chain of carbon atoms, it’s an addition polymer.
