Eighth Amendment

Bail
Release of a person by providing security for future appearance in court.
Equal Protection to Indigentcy for Bail and Fine
An indigent cannot be imprisoned for inability to pay a fine.
Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Courts may not impose a sentence that’s significantly disproportionate to the crime.
Cruel and Unusual Punishment and the Death Penalty
The Death Penalty cannot be made a mandatory sentence for a crime.
Prisoners Rights
Prisoners may not be deprived of rights unless they affect the safety and smooth operation of the prison.
Identification and line up
Police procedure in which a person suspected of a crime is placed in a line with others and a witness to the crime attempts to identify the suspect.
Pretrial Incarceration
Reasonable security measure for individual awaiting trial.
Habeas Corpus
Process by which a prisoner contest the constitutionality of his confinement.
Parole
Parole is conditional release from prison/ that allows the person to serve the remainder of his term outside of prison.
Probation
Defendant who is found guilty of a crime/ and upon verdict or plea is released by the court without imprisonment/ and is subject to conditions and supervised by a probation officer.
Juvenile Justice System
Juvenile justice system is designed to rehabilitate rather than punish.
