5.3.3 - Light and Colour Flashcards
What colours is your retina sensitive to?
Red, Green and Blue.
What does a prism split white light into?
A continuous spectrum.
What does each frequency of light travel at in glass?
Slightly different speeds.
Because each frequency of light travels at a slightly different speed in glass, what happens?
Each frequency is refracted by a different amount.
What is dispersion?
Spreading out white light into a spectrum.
What is the colour associate with the frequency called?
Spectral colour.
Why can you see in mirrors?
Because the reflection is specular (regular).
What effect does coloured glass have over a white light?
What does it act like?
The glass will only absorb certain frequencies and transmit only the colour it is.
A filter.
What colours does a yellow fish absorb?
All colours exept yellow.
What colour will a yellow fish appear in blue light?
Black - because it is not giving out any yellow light for the fish to absorb.
Why can you not see your reflection in a sheet of paper?
Because the scattering is is diffuse.
What coloured glass would you need to have to observe a yellow fish as black?
Any colour that will absorb yellow.
