5.3 Reflection Flashcards
What is a plane mirror?
A flat mirror
What is the normal, when it comes to reflection and refraction?
A line that is perpendicular to the reflective material
In reflection, what does the angle of incidence equal?
The angle of reflection
In reflection, what is the angle of reflection equal to?
The angle of incidence
What is the name of the Ray moving towards the reflective surface?
Incident Ray
What is the reflected ray?
The ray moving away from the mirror
What is the angle of incidence?
The angle between the incident ray and the normal
What is the angle of reflection?
The angle between the reflected ray and the normal
Describe 4 things about the image seen in a plane mirror
- same size
- upright
- same distance
- virtual
What is a real image?
An image that can be formed on a screen because the rays of light that produce the image actually pass through it
What is a virtual image?
An image that cannot be formed on as screen because the rays of light that produce the image only appear to pass through it
What does the law of reflection state?
That the angle of incidence is the same as the angle of reflection
Be sure to draw on arrows in the direction of the rays
The virtual image is always diagonally across the reflective surface from the reflected ray
What is an image in a mirror due to?
The reflection of the light
