5.2.3 EM waves in healthcare Flashcards
How is infrared radiation used for imaging?
A thermal imaging camera produces a thermogram that shows regions of different temperatures.
How are x rays used for imaging?
Bones absorb X rays but your soft tissues like ur skin and muscle do not.
How are gamma rays used for imaging?
A doctor will inject a patient with a radioactive substance that emits gamma rays and the sensor will detect the gamma rays travelling out of the body.
How to read ray diagrams
draw a line to represent the rays and then draw a normal at 90 degrees to the point the ray hits it and then measure the angles from the normal to the rays.
Why are EM waves refracted
when they change speed. When light goes from air into glass at an angle it will slow down and bend towards the normal.
