5.2 Circular motion Flashcards
radian
the angles subtended at the centre of a circle when the arc is equal to the radius of the circle
period
the time taken in seconds for one complete circular path
angular velocity
the rate of angular rotation, measured in radians per second
centripetal acceleration
the acceleration of an object moving with uniform circular motion. directed radially inwards towards the centre of the circle, perpendicular to the velocity vector at any instant
centripetal force
the resultant force on an object acting towards the centre of the circle causing it to move in a circular path
Investigation of circular motion
whirling bung, measure the time for a revolution, plot F against v^2. the gradient should be a straight line = m/r
Conical pendulum equations (horizontal)
TSin< = (mv^2)/R
Conical pendulum equations (Vertical)
TCos< = mg
Conical pendulum equations (resultant)
Tan< = (v^2)/(Rg)
