Q

Why might px prefer a hydrogel SCL?

A

SiHys are higher modulus/stiffer – px may be more aware of lens on eye

Higher water content in hydrogel – px may feel like SiHys are dryer on eyes (but this allows for higher Dk/t)

But SiHys = higher Dk/t = less risk of hypoxia and resultant complications incl. neovasc/infiltrates

Q

Insertion

A

Wash hands, dry thoroughly – emphasise more important than ever & to use soap/water not alcohol gel

Right or left-handed

Check lens details and expiry, open blister, check for any nicks/tears

Lenses out the packaging and sit it on your fingertip – ensure correct way round

CL index finger dominant hand,

Non-dominant hand – look down and secure upper lid

Dominant hand middle finger – look up and secure bottom lid

Px looks nasal – lens placed on sclera

Look straight ahead, and then in 4 POAG

Gently release lids

Takes time to settle; If it still feels uncomfortable after a while, its best to take it out and have a look for any rips/tears and give it a rinse with solution
